An Example Of Great Continuity
Every moviemaker knows the importance of preserving continuity within a scene or scenes. If actors’ wardrobes change in the space of an edit, it can prove distracting for the audience and pull them away from the story you’re trying to tell. But filmmakers aren’t perfect and mistakes do slide through. The folks over at MovieMistakes.com have turned the spotting of such goof-ups into a thriving website. (Which features my all time favorite mistake- according to Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Indiana Jones is about three feet tall…) However, no recognition is ever given to moviemakers who manage to keep continuity mistakes out of their pictures. If there ever was an award for such work, the first one should be awarded to the folks who made Back To The Future 2, whose time traveling storyline had hero Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) journeying back to the events of the first Back To The Future flick and interacting with those events without changing them. Director Robert Zemeckus and screenwriter Bob Gale did a great job in presenting a potentially very confusing concept to the audience. To prove how good a job that they did someone has edited the two films side-by-side to show how accurate they were in re-creating scenes from the first film for the sequel. | |
