Series of Short Films Brings Local Films Into The Spotlight

This summer the Endless Mountain Theaters in Dickson City will be hosting a unique opportunity for local filmmakers short films to be shown before this summer’s new blockbusters. Each short ranges from three minutes to five minutes in length. The series of shorts began with a creative meeting held at Dunkin Donuts in Scranton on October 18, 2005. The meetings grew from pitching film ideas into finding a venue to show the films and then to a casting call at Wyoming Seminary on January 21, 2006. The casting call yielded up a variety of talented local actors, many of who appear in more than one of the shorts.

Memories in Tact (by Kevin Ripka) A guy looks back on his doomed relationship to discover why his girlfriend dumped him. Memories In Tact, which was filmed by a group of King’s College students, will play exclusively at Endless Mountains Theatre from June 2 - 8 prior to this summer’s most anticipated comedy, The Break-Up, which stars Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston as live-in lovers who break-up and refuse to move out of their Chicago condo.

Higher (by Maureen McGuigan and Mark Migliore) A woman realizes the sacred is in the details as she moves through an ordinary day. Co-creator Maureen McGuigan won a Lackawanna County Grant as a playwright and has used this grant to promote such events as the Rainbow Crow and Other Pennsylvania Legends and Folktales, a play about the legends of local Native American tribes. Higher will be shown on June 9-15 before The Omen, the horrifying tale of a young boy destined to become the Antichrist.

President Swap (by Kevin Ripka) An animated parody of the "Wife Swap" TV Show where President Bush switches places with the President of the "Saved by the Bell" fan club with hilarious results. This will show June 16-22 before Nacho Libre, The Jack Black movie about a Mexican priest nicknamed Nacho who moonlights as a wrestler to earn money for his orphanage.
Alright (by Jeff Fowler) A guy and a gal discover what its like to be more than friends after he confesses his dissatisfaction with their current relationship. This film, written and directed by CFP president Jeff Fowler, will be shown June 23-June29 before the comedy Click, staring Adam Sandler and Kate Beckinsale. Sandler plays a man who buys a remote control that enables him to rewind of fast forward events in his life. However, the remote soon takes on a mind of it’s own.

Barrage (by Craig Cirelli) A group of soldiers encounter an unknown enemy force in the midst of WWII. This short features incredible special effects as well as authentic WWII uniforms and weaponry. Craig Cirelli, the filmmaker is also a CFP board member, making him no stranger independent films. Barrage will be shown on June 30-July 6 before Superman Returns, starring Brandon Routh as the Man of steel, who returns to Earth after an extended absence, finds that he must not only fight for Earth’s safety but for the heart of Louis Lane, Kate Bosworth, as well.

Grim Interview: A Day in the Life of Death (by Tim Gear) A man’s humorous account of the day Death chose him to be the new Death. Tim Gear heads up Archon films, which has turned out great local films such as Wishbone and Midnight Visit which premiered at Endless Mountain Theaters. This latest addition to Archon Films will premiere on July 7-13 before the highly anticipated sequel, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, staring Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley. In this adventure, Jack Sparrow, Johnny Depp, finds that he is under the curse of Davy Jones, unless Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swan, aid him in breaking the curse.

Red/Blue by Trish Blaine- A young woman takes us through the fast paced and witty sequence of events that lead up to a life changing decision. This clever short marks the filmmaking debut of local stage actress Trish Blaine and will be showing in front of You, Me and Dupree, starring Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson, and Matt Dillon and beginning July 14 and ending on the 20th. You, Me and Dupree is the romantic comedy about what can happen when your best friend moves in with you and your girlfriend, starring Owen Wilson, Kate Hudson, and Matt Dillon

Kingston Hall (by Tony DelRegno) Teenagers get more than they bargained for when they meet the mysterious ghost of Kingston Hall in this suspenseful short made by CFP board member Tony DelRegno and will be premiered on July 21-27 in front of the M. Night Shyamalan movie Lady in the Water, story of how building manager discovers a mysterious lady from a bedtime myth who is in danger and needs his help to return home.

Black Market (by Robert Sweeney) An animated, comedic adventure about a missing boy and his brave rescuer set in the shady underbelly of the Chinese Black Market in the style of a classic silent movie complete with subtitles. This will play before Miami Vice, the action suspense movie about two cops who deal with false identities and dangerous relationships in the midst of taking down an arms dealer, starring Jamie Fox and Collin Farrell.
