Summer 2007 SHORTS Schedule

The Community Film Project, in association with the Endless Mountains Theatres, is proud to present a series of six short films that will screen before Hollywood’s biggest summer blockbusters during June and July. Ranging from comedy to action to suspense, each short film has been produced in Northeastern Pennsylvania, entirely utilizing local talent both in front of and behind the camera.
This series includes a paranormal being, a killer cue ball, a fighting bear, and coffee addicted zombies. The series kicks off with a film titled “Heynabonics” which teaches regional newbies the NEPA dialect.
“Due to recent advances in digital technology, independent filmmaking has become an affordable hobby for those with a passion for storytelling,” says Community Film Project president Jeff Fowler. “When you contemplate what it will take to make the film that you see in your mind, you quickly realize that you could use a little help. You may need actors, extras, crew or musicians. Regardless of what you need, the CFP is the best place to find some help. These shorts serve as a great example of how the CFP makes connections between artists with complementary skills. Completing your film is very satisfying, but having it play for a week before a summer blockbuster is quite surreal.”
“As the only independently owned and operated movie theater in Northeast Pennsylvania, we’re excited to be aligned with the Community Film Project to present these films,” states J. W. Colwell, assistant to the Endless Mountain Theatres CEO. “This gives us the unique opportunity to feature some of the great talent to be found here in the area.”
The Community Film Project is a regional arts initiative designed to help independent filmmakers network resources and promote their finished projects. The Community Film Project members share a love for movies, a passion for creative expression, and a vested interest in producing opportunities within our own community. We contribute to the cultural life of this region, and hope to improve opportunities for others to do so. The CFP was founded in 2004 to harness these passions, to bring these talents and resources together.
The Community Film Project’s Summer Shorts Series is supported by a Lackawanna County Arts and Cultural Grant, a program of the Lackawanna County Commissioners and the Lackawanna County Council on the Arts.
