Run! Don't Walk From THE BLOB Short Film Contest!

This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the filming of one of the greatest 1950s monster films- The Blob!

To mark the occassion, The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA (near Valley Forge) is holding a Backyard B-Movie Blob Bonanza amateur filmmaking contest in conjunction with their annual BLOBFEST street fair held every July. The films need to be no longer than five minutes in length, family-friendly and in some way be related to The Blob. Beyond that, let your imagination run wild.

The Colonial Theatre is the movie theatre where Steve McQueen and his friends are attacked by the gelatinous title creature in the 1958 classic film. For the past several years, The Colonial Theatre has been celebrating its place in movie history with a weekend long street fair featuring vintage cars, costume contests, 50s rock and roll and rockabilly music and screenings of THE BLOB and other 1950s sci-fi films. And there's something really surreal and fun about sitting in the balcony of the theatre and watching on screen as the Blob oozes out of the projection booth windows you know are just a few feet behind you! This year's BLOBFEST is scheduled for July 13 & 14.

You can find more information on the contest at the Colonial Theatre's website by clicking on the link marked "The Blob" at the bottom of the page.
