The War Tapes to Open in NY, Boston, LA...and Wilkes-Barre

The War Tapes, a film by local producer Robert May of SenArt Films, Best Documentary Winner at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, is coming to Wilkes-Barre's new RC Theatre Beginning Friday, July 14.

“Riveting! Compelling!....gives a stronger taste of the Iraqi war experience than any film I can remember," wrote Stephen Holden of The New York Times. The critically acclaimed documentary - THE WAR TAPES - Winner of the International Documentary Competition at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival, is scheduled to open in downtown Wilkes-Barre's RC Theatres for a special one-week limited engagement beginning Friday, July 14, 2006. A special Q & A will immediately follow the opening night's show.

"The War Tapes is currently only opening in larger markets, such as New York City, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles," said Robert May of SenArt Films. "We wanted to show our support of the downtown theater project and of the area by opening this special film in Wilkes-Barre along with the larger markets."

Critically acclaimed, THE WAR TAPES, has been called "The first indispensable Iraq documentary," by Owen Gleiberman of Entertainment Weekly and David Ansen of Newsweek raves "it's riveting enough to glue any "X-Man" patron in his seat."

Produced by Robert May (of the Academy Award winning THE FOG OF WAR) and Steve James (of the Academy Award nominated HOOP DREAMS), THE WAR TAPES is the first war movie filmed by soldiers themselves. Straight from the front lines in Iraq, THE WAR TAPES is the story of Operation Iraqi Freedom through the eyes of Sgt. Zach Bazzi, Sgt. Steve Pink and Spc. Mike Moriarty, all part of the unit Charlie Company, 3rd of the 172nd Infantry (Mountain) Regiment, based at L.S.A. Anaconda in the deadly Sunni Triangle. THE WAR TAPES is not a political film in the usual sense, "but in honestly bearing witness to these soldiers' experience, it reveals their politics and opinions candidly, whether they support or oppose their mission," May said. Director Deborah Scranton explains, "THE WAR TAPES is magical, heartbreaking and completely unique - a modern Iliad and Odyssey that can bring millions of Americans an experience they have not had - the experience of war, and the experience of homecoming."

A special Q & A and discussion will be held immediately following the opening night show at 7pm on Friday, July 14, at RC Theatres. It will feature Robert May, Sgt. Steve Pink and Lindsay Coletti, Pink's girlfriend also featured in the film.
